Pack like a Pro!

I don’t know about you but I am a chronic over packer. I have gotten better over the years, but still struggle when it comes to packing. Even if I'm heading out on a quick weekend getaway, I still feel the need to bring not only the basics, but variety of everything...just so I have options.
Here are some basic strategies to prevent over packing…and start packing like a pro!
- Always make a list, it can save you from serious over packing—and from forgetting necessities.
- Think about the number of outfits you need and subtract one.
- Roll, not fold…you’ll fit more.
- If you are flying, pack shoes in your carry-on. Packing them in a carry-on saves you room for more clothes and makes your checked bag less heavy.
- Pack outfits that can be mixed and matched instead of completely separate ensembles.
- Check the weather and be realistic in terms of what you’re going to wear.
- Don’t pack a lot of shoes—try to coordinate multiple outfits that match the same shoes so you only have to pack one or two pairs.
- Travel with samples you get from department stores. Save tester perfumes, foundations, eye creams, everything.
- Pack liquid toiletries in zip lock bags to prevent leakage.
- Use old contact cases to store liquid makeup. The caps prevent any spillage and on any weekend-to-weeklong trip, you will only need about an ounce of foundation anyway.
- Don’t bring your laptop unless you absolutely have to. Most of us have smartphones or tablets, which take up less space and are way less heavy.
- Bring an empty carry-on-sized bag in your checked luggage to bring back all your goodies that you purchase while on vacation!
